On April 1, 2017, Chinese Multinational Corporation Development Report （2016） press conference and Chinese multinational companies and construction of “One Road” seminar were held in our university. It was officially released of Chinese Multinational Corporation Development Report （2016） （hereinafter referred to as the "Report （2016）"） by editors-in-chief, Lu Jinyong, Liu Huiqun and Wang huiyao. The participating experts and enterprise representatives had a discussion around the topics of technology, standards, service "going out" and the development of Chinese transnational corporations, Chinese multinational companies and “One Belt One Road” construction and other issues. They think highly of the report. The dean of International Economic and Trade, Professor Hong Junjie and professor Lu Jinyong presided over the conference and seminar respectively.

In the conference, Deputy President Lin Guijun highlighted the important role of multinational companies to economic development in our country in his speech. He believes that we especially need to improve the quality of the multinational company development of our country under the current international background. At the same time, he said highly of the study of value of Chinese multinational development report （2016）, encouraged report research team to continue deepening the study of Chinese multinational companies. Professor Lu Jinyong introduced the main content, themes, characteristics and the 2017 annual report writing ideas of the Report （2016） in detail. He said the Report was one of the research achievements of Think Tank construction in International Economy and Trade Department as well as one of research output of Collaborative innovation center on Chinese enterprises to go global of our university. “Report （2016）” is the second of a series of research reports, whose theme is: technology, standard, service of “going out” and building world-class Chinese multinational companies. This series of reports will continue to publish in the form of the annual report in the future, and the theme of the 2017 is "the construction of Chinese multinational corporations and “One belt One Road". Press President Yu Xingfa fully acknowledged the research achievements of multinational company research team in our school, and introduced the process of publication and the significance of the report briefly.

 

In the seminar, experts and enterprise representatives attending the meeting had in-depth discussion on the report topic. Director Shen Danyang evaluated Report （2016） has academic value, enterprise decision-making reference value and research value for government policy, and she hoped the team can collect more comprehensive multinational company development data and deeply analyzed the rules of the development of Chinese multinational corporations under the background of the “One Belt One Road”. Researcher Huo Jianguo points out that we should correctly understand the risk of Chinese enterprises “going out”, carry on the classification regulation to the overseas investment enterprise to avoid similar overseas investment “brakes” phenomenon happening again by the end of last year, so as not to miss the golden opportunity of the development of the enterprise. In the next step, in the process of “One Belt One Road” construction, multinational company should look for accurate positioning, assessing risk, improve the investment efficiency. Wang Huiyao, Director of China and Globalization Think Tank, believes the international talent shortage is a factor affecting the quality of the Chinese multinational companies to "go out". Multinational companies should be fully applied overseas, overseas Chinese and foreign students in China resources. In addition, the research conducted by global think tank found that “One Belt One Road” participation is not high at the enterprise level. He proposed that we shall establish multinational companies’ participation platform. Researcher Zhang Yansheng summarized the changes of international environment in the process of “One Belt One Road” strategy promotion, and put forward that multinational companies should comprehensively aware national investment risks of “One Belt One Road”, develop investment mode according to their own characteristics. Researcher Li Jianming pointed out that the development of Chinese multinationals internationalization degree is not high from phenomenon of the low Chinese multinational transnational index. Hence, they need making long-term development strategy, managing overseas investment risk, giving full play to social forces, and gradually making up for the development gap. Professor Wu Changqi thought multinational company theory was needed to make a change in the current era. Modern corporation theory provided a new angle of view for theoretical innovation of multinational companies. At the same time, he published his views about combining “One Belt One Road” policy and Chinese multinational corporations based on the interpretation of “One Belt One Road” policy. Professor Chen Taotao published his points of view on China’s current development situation of multinational companies in Latin America. He said China was investment latecomers in this region and the local demand has formed a relatively clear framework. Adding cultural and institutional differences, the development of Chinese multinational companies in the region is relatively difficult, but the successful operating experience of Lenovo Group is worth using for reference. Professor Xia Youfu emphasized that Chinese multinational development level is still in its infancy once again. Multinational companies in future should develop global strategy, increase global market and the operation ability of global resources. Cai Ning summarized China Development Bank’s work in the “One Belt One Road” construction. The CDB not only provides support for multinational companies, as well as provides financing support for economic and social development along the national. It providse funds for major projects, at the same time makes great effort for promoting the RMB internationalization. Director He Hongxu briefly introduced the “going out” process and current situation of Chinese Oil and Gas Companies, and put forward the company is engaged in overseas operations when facing international cultural fusion, standards fusion and management integration. Vice President Zhou Bing put forward suggestions for the development of Chinese transnational corporations from the perspective of foreign multinationals. He thought Chinese multinational companies need to have a clear goal of “going out”, try to be a separate entity. They should not only have an independent global view, and even to have independent “foreign policy”, and then gradually play a role in participating in global governance. Director Ding Jihua also stressed that Chinese multinational companies should attach great importance to the risk of foreign investment, have a long term strategy in the “One Belt One Road” construction, work to a sound management system and develop responsible business practices. Professor Lan Qingxin proposed that we could jointly develop part of the “One Belt One Road” all the way along the country market with foreign multinational companies, and promote private enterprises’ investment in the “One Belt One Road” all the way along the country. He also emphasized it is a vital way of RMB internationalization and the stability of commodity prices to promote the construction of “One Belt One Road”.
