To fully implement the “Studying in China Initiative”, the Ministry of Education organized the assessment of excellent course in English for overseas students studying in China according to the General Office of Ministry of Education’s notice on excellent course evaluation in 2013. 150 courses were listed as excellent course in 2013 after strict selection and evaluation by experts from all the applications of tertiary education institutions and recommendations from provincial administrative department of education. The International Trade lectured by Prof Lin Guijun of our school and International Trade Practice lectured by Prof Wang Jian were both selected as excellent course. The Ministry of Education granted 100,000 RMB for each course as funding support.
After the General Office of Ministry of Education announced the notice on excellent course evaluation in 2013, the Teaching Affairs Department of our university and SITE (School of International Business and Economics) immediately initiated the application procedure. The International Trade and International Trade Practice were two focal points of the application for both courses have enhanced framework, a long history and wide influences in our school. SITE granted 10,000 RMB for each course as funding support of the application. The teaching team of International Trade led by Prof Lin Guijun included Prof Huang Xiaoling,Associate Prof He Yin, Doc Liu Qing, etc. The teaching team of International Trade Practice led by Prof Wang Jian included Associate Prof Wei Tiemei, Doc Li Yang, etc. Members of both teams can teach fluently in English. With the support of Hua zhi corp., Ltd, and endeavors of faculties, two teams finished core members’ video recording of teaching practice and submitted materials in a short time. Finally, two courses passed the evaluation of Beijing Municipality and recommended by Beijing Municipal Education Commission. During the national selection process, both courses were successfully listed as excellent courses for overseas students with unanimous supports from the evaluation committee.
The successful application reflected the advantage and rich experience of our school’s conventional English teaching practice, particularly for overseas students. It will inevitably enhance our university’s brand image.
