Cyber Risk Management After a Breach This paper studies how cyber incidents reshape firms’ incentives to invest in cybersecurity and whether these investments pay off. Using novel measures from job postings and employee records, we document large and persistent post-incident improvements that move affected firms ahead of comparable firms in both cybersecurity human capital and technology. Firms with stronger pre-incident in-house cybersecurity capabilities experience smaller negative abnormal returns when incidents occur, whereas firms with greater reliance on external cloud infrastructure experience larger losses. Incident disclosure induces precautionary cybersecurity investment among similarly exposed firms, though firms’ responses also raise reliance on common providers, contributing to systemic risk. Review of Financial Studies、Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis等国际顶级期刊。 |
