  1. General Requirement

1.1 Bachelor Program

Applicants will need a secondary school or high school certificate. Education should normally consist of a minimum of 12 years of study. You will need to present transcripts from your graduation diploma or certificate, and any graduation exam results. And applications for admission are reviews as soon as all required documents are received. These minimum requirements do not imply the automatic acceptance into the Program.

International Baccalaureate

You will need the full International Baccalaureate (three subsidiary and three higher level subjects), with a minimum of 28 points. You may have one subject with a grade of 3, provided it is offset by a grade of 5 or better.

British-based Systems (e.g. United Kingdom, West Indies, East and West Africa, Hong Kong)

The General Certificate of Education or equivalent is required, with satisfactory standing in five subjects at the G.C.S.E. or Ordinary Level. Two suitable subjects at the Advanced level are also required (graded A, B, C or D). For the Caribbean, a minimum of two 2-unit CAPE subjects are required in addition to CXC's.

American-based Systems (e.g. United States, American high schools overseas)

Applicants who have completed Grade 12 in the U.S. or in a U.S. overseas school, will be considered for admission to first year at UIBE The Grade 12 program must include at least four academic units and a minimum of 16 academic units must have been completed during Grades 9 to 12. A minimum average of C or better is required for admission. Applicants are encouraged to submit SAT or ACT scores, school grading information including pass marks, and rank in class information to support their application for admission to the University.

Other Systems (e.g., Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Central America, South America)

You will need a secondary school or high school certificate. Education should normally consist of a minimum of 12 years of study. For some countries, applicants may require to have completed one year of university studies.

1.2 Master Program

An applicant must have completed or must be in the final year of completing a four-year (or three¨Cyear in Europe) or Honours Degree in an undergraduate program (or equivalents) in the final year of that program. Previous training in Economics is useful but not required; there is no requirement for the undergraduate major.

Each application must be supported by letters of reference from two academic advisors or instructors. Satisfaction of theses minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the Program. The Admission Committee takes several factors into consideration in assessing the eligibility of an applicant for admission into the program. They include the performance of the applicant based on the grade point average (GPA) and the assessment provided by student's referees. Preference is given to applicants who may like to demonstrate that they possess the necessary learning ability to succeed in the program. For instance, job experience, activities, and etc. Applicants without sufficient preparation for admission should contact the Administrative Director by email at janelee@uibe.edu.cn who may explore with students the possibilities of upgrading their preparation.

1.3 PhD Program

Paper application packages may be requested by emailing to the Admissions office at sie@uibe.edu.cn or janelee@uibe.edu.cn.

The Faculty only admits students to commence in the fall term. However, the Faculty may consider Master degree applicants to commence in the spring or the summer term. Applications for admission may be submitted at any time. Applications for admission from outside China should be completed at least four months before the desired date of admission in order for students to make the necessary visa arrangements.

  3. Transcript & Reference Letters

One original official transcript of the applicant's entire university record (or high school recode for Undergraduate program) must be sent to Admission office. All foreign documents, e.g., transcripts, must be translated into English.

And enclosed two letters of reference signed and sealed envelopes (must be submitted in an official envelope) which is sealed and signed on the flap by the referee.

To the applicant: all applications must be supported by letters of recommendation from at least two faculty members with whom the candidate has studied, who is in a position to assess his/her potential for graduate studies and research. References from non-academic supervisors are not ordinarily acceptable, except in certain cases, such as that of an applicant working in a research laboratory environment. All letters of reference are to be sent by the referees directly to the Admission Office after signed and sealed envelope. Documents are non-returnable

To the referee: Please ensure that you reply on a downloaded reference form or a separate sheet of headed university/institution notepaper and sign the reference. Your assistance is appreciated. And please sign the back of the envelope over the seal. You may also, if you wish, return the reference directly to Admissions office.

Please address following questions in your reference letter.

1. Name, current Position and current institution of referee?

2. How is the applicant known to you£¿

3. How long have you known the applicant?

4. Has the applicant discussed her/his motivation for the proposed program of study with you?

5. How well do you know the applicant¡¯s academic work?

6. Relative to other students from the same university and following the same degree program please indicate an overall assessment of the applicant¡¯s ranking in class and please indicate if the ranking system is formal or informal.

7. In your opinion how well does the applicant¡¯s studies to date equip him or her to follow the chosen program of study at International Graduate program?

You might wish to comment on the applicant¡¯s writing skills; analytical skills; presentation skills; quantitative skills (if relevant to program)

8. To your knowledge does the applicant have any other qualifications relevant to this application?

9 Do you have any other comments on this applicant¡¯s application to IGPAE for graduate study?

  4. Proficiency in English

The medium of instruction is English so that all incoming graduate students must have a good command of English. An applicant whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) unless they present transcripts indicate that they have studied for two or more years at, or received a degree from, a college or university in a country where English is the language of instruction and/or the native language otherwise the requirement may be satisfied using one of the following tests:

Test of English as a Foreign Language: To present a minimum score of 550 with TWE of 5 on the paper based test of TOEFL (213 on the computer based TOEFL, or 79-80 on the Internet based test of TOEFL)

  5. Admission Procedures

All applicants for admission will initially be examined and evaluated by a committee from School of International Trade and Economics. All supporting documents (original transcript, 2 letters of reference, etc.) must be received before any application can receive formal consideration. The University may nullify an admission and revoke a registration if it finds that an applicant for admission or registration has, in the process, provided false or incomplete information.

Step 6: Receive letter of admission decisions

Applicants will inform an admission decision by email (or letter). Note the earliest possible dates for an Offer of Admission to the program listed below:

Fall Session: May 1

Spring session: October 30

Step 7: What next?

If applicants receive an Offer of Admission and wish to accept, applicants need to send a CN£¤5000 non-refundable deposit. The deposit is required upon acceptance of the offer of admission to the International Graduate Program. This deposit will be applied to your first term program fee. Once receives the deposit, the admission office will send the acceptance letter and JW202 form for a Chinese visa.
